We introduced this deck transformation in Project in Progress: A New Deck Built for Views and Visitors. Our clients have an exceptionally gorgeous golf course view. But they were enjoying it from an ordinary, modest-sized deck. We designed a deck that was a true expansion of their home giving them a wonderful space for more friends, family and fun.

Our new design included expanding the deck across the back of the home, and adding significantly more deck space, a pergola and relocating the stairs to the other side of the deck.
Here are the final results of this project!

This outdoor space is now perfect for entertaining. Ipe wood was used for the decking because of its beauty and durability. Ipe wood is one of the densest hardwoods available, three times harder than cedar.

A pergola adds shade to an open dining area. The bar tie adds strength and visual interest.

Steps down to the yard were relocated to the other side of the deck, allowing for the expansion where the pergola and outdoor dining area are now located. The distinctive arc design is repeated in the edge of the deck and the pergola. The cable rail provides security while maximizing the view of the golf course.

The shingle siding adds mass to the deck foundations while it visually ties into the gable siding on the house and the stone veneer.

Our client’s new outdoor space gives the home a more attractive and distinctive look, but still stays in style with the rest of the neighborhood.
