Our clients built their suburban Colonial-style home in the early 1980s. Near retirement, they decided it was time for a sustainable renovation to create a healthier, more natural environment to accommodate large family gatherings. Silent Rivers redesigned the main floor to improve connection between the kitchen and other living spaces. We focused on better air quality by using materials such as clay walls, no-VOC finishes and hard surfaces. Painted trim was replaced with solid wood millwork throughout. Flooring materials included reclaimed wood, slate and eco-friendly carpet tiles. The kitchen now serves as the heart of a home centered on a large island where people can congregate. Silent Rivers built custom furniture and cabinets throughout the home. The end result is a warm, comfortable and inviting home.
